Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island is one of Delaware's State Parks.
President Thomas Jefferson believed a strong defense was a good deterrent against invaders, and this fort is one of those commissioned by him long ago.
More famous as a prison for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, Fort Delaware is great place to experience life as it was in Delaware 150 years ago.
SInce it's on an island, you'll need to catch the Ferry that leaves from the Park offices at the Delaware City dock. The Park opens in April. It's a great day trip.
